Ostrá hora is the middle of three travertine mounds in the north-south direction Spišský hrad, Ostra hora and Dreveník. Travertine settled here, similarly to Dreveník at the end of the Tertiary. The original domed shape of the Sharp Mountain became very disturbed during the Pleistocene. At first, the surrounding soft flysch complex was disturbed and carried away, which alone left the travertine body with steep walls and slopes. Then mechanical weathering and beautification began on the travertines.
