The town of Bardejov is a town that has a history of more than 771 years. It is an important city, whose valuable assets are monuments created in the Middle Ages. It is also known for its world-famous spa, beautiful surrounding nature and relatively undisturbed environment. The town is a district seat and a natural cultural - social and economic center of the Upper Šariš region. It has more than 33,000 inhabitants and, thanks to its circumstances and its geographical location, it maintains an important position not only in the area of eastern Slovakia, but also in the border regions of neighboring Poland.
Bardejov is a natural center of tourism in the Prešov region and an important destination in Slovakia, especially thanks to Bardejov Spa, a tradition and attendance whose significantly exceeds the borders of the state. The beauties of the city and its surroundings are well known to tourists and are intensely perceived by the locals. The city monument reserve, together with the complex of buildings forming the Jewish suburb, was inscribed on the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage List in 2000.
Bardejov is known as a city with a rich cultural and social life, which is often decorated with interesting events of urban and regional character, there are many sports facilities, which is undoubtedly a good prerequisite for the interest of future generations to live in this city.
Bardejov is also an important center of education. In the city, education is represented from primary education, through secondary education to university studies.
The town of Bardejov is an important economic center of the district and the region. The once famous city of shoe manufacturers changed its economic base after 1989. Although the downturn programs in these sectors have meant a great loss of jobs, today light industrial enterprises have a significant position in the city, the service sector has strengthened, the traditionally strong food industry, engineering, wood processing industry, trade organizations, small and medium private companies and trade groups. At present, the Bardejov - North industrial zone is being established on the outskirts of the city.
Bardejov, which is an independent territorial self-governing and administrative unit and the City at the same time the seat of the district, is part of the Prešov self-governing region within the administrative arrangement of Slovakia. It is a legal entity that independently manages its own property and income. It performs tasks in the area of care for the all-round development of the city and the needs of its inhabitants.
