The school was founded in 1954 as an eleven-year high school. From September 1, 1970, it operated under the name of the Grammar School with Hungarian as the language of instruction in Šamorín. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of its establishment, the grammar school was awarded the honorary name of the Imre Madách Grammar School.
