Within the Trenčín self-governing region, the library coordinates and advises other regional libraries, provides tasks related to bibliographic registration and coordination of bibliographic activities, provides tasks related to documenting the status and development of library and information services to the public through the library system. The founder of the library is the Trenčín self-governing region.
The library fund of the Public Library of Michal Rešetka contains approx. volumes of books and special documents (audiovisual, electronic), 280 titles of periodicals and regional documents.
The library is open 65 hours a week, providing services daily except Sundays. In addition to library and information services in accordance with its focus and specialization, it also provides Internet access for the public, organizes a number of cultural and social events to introduce the general public to writers and other important personalities of the Trenčín region, educational events for children and youth and acts as a community center. .
Within its local and regional scope, the library fulfills its educational, information and cultural mission, ensures free access to information and participates in the lifelong learning of its users and visitors.

The reading room offers domestic and foreign newspapers and magazines mainly for full-time study. Archive of bound periodicals, which the library has been building since 1955 is used only for full-time study. Some issues of older periodicals, especially social magazines, are borrowed in absentia.
Unregistered readers have the opportunity to use the services of the reading room after paying a one-time fee of € 0.50.
The reprographic services provided in this department are used to make photocopies of periodicals or parts of documents in the library's holdings. These services are provided by the library in accordance with the provisions of the Copyright Act no. 185/2015 Coll. and according to the price list of services.
The staff of the reading room processes information from the upcoming periodicals into an electronic database and provides professional assistance in finding sources for the required topics.
Internet for the public offers the general public, without the condition of registration in the library, 6 computers with internet access. Of course, it is possible to use a color or black and white printer. The consulting services of the department staff are free of charge, the use of a PC or printer is charged according to the price list of services.
The workplace reading room and internet for the public is located on the ground floor of the library.

The supplemented documents are professionally processed in the Clavius library and information system into an electronic database and an electronic catalog. On the basis of documents from individual departments of the library, the employees of the department exclude worn-out, damaged, obsolete, lost and irrecoverable literature from the library collection.
The department organizes, evaluates and participates in planned and extraordinary revisions of library collections.
The workplace for children and youth provides books and periodicals suitable especially for children under 15 years. The spatial equipment, the composition of the library collection and the services provided are adapted to the child reader. Part of the workplace is a "children's room" - a room which, among other things, provides space for discussions with writers, the implementation of information education, literary lessons, exhibitions and competitions.
Music collections and audio books
Specialized library workplace for those interested in music. Visitors can find books on music, sheet music, music magazines, records and CDs. Genre-diverse documentary collections focus primarily on classical music, but also offer minority genres of popular music, folklore and the spoken word. Books, sheet music and magazines can also be borrowed outside the library. Audio media can be listened only in the library, currently there is a CD available on Hasičská street 1, in the workplace Internet for the public.
We provide audio books in cooperation with the Union of the Blind and Visually Impaired of Slovakia and the Slovak Library for the Blind Matej Hrebenda in Levoča on magnetic tapes and CDs in MP3 format for the blind and partially sighted free of charge. Audio books of various genres are regularly updated and are available to those interested at Hasičská street 1, in the Hudobné fonds and audio books department.
For those interested in listening to digitized audio books, we have a computer with headphones and the help of a competent employee. We provide access in the Internet for the public workplace on Hasičská street no. 1, 2nd floor.
