History of the Municipal Library in Kežmarok
1945 Establishment of a library in the former Catholic circle
1947 After 2 years of activity, the library has 1015 volumes, 137 readers and 600 loans
In 1952 it became the District People's Library with 1 professional worker
1953 received the title of BVĽK (we are building a model folk library)
1960 change of statute to the Municipal People's Library
1960-70 the number of workers gradually increased to 4
1970-72 the collection was reworked according to library standards, card catalogs were built - nominal, title, systematic, revision and picture catalog for children, books were wrapped in protective foil
1972 18,697 volumes of processed books, 1,707 readers, and 39,611 loans
1973 becomes a center library with 4 branches, 1 employee was added
In 1975 another 10 branches were added, of which 4 school branches in primary schools, a total of 14 branches, where the original fund was processed and new additions were already supplied with catalogs, 5 specialists worked, 1 in the Ľubice branch full-time and in other branches volunteer librarians
1978 loss of legal personality, the library was incorporated into the District Library in Poprad, which was the methodological center for the district of Poprad. An average of 4,000 books were bought for 100,000 crowns a year
1987 reorganization and transfer to MsKS in Kežmarok
1989 abolition of the center system, 1 employee remained in the branch in Ľubice, the library reached 5,000 readers a year, 100,000 loans and had 80,000 volumes
1994 purchase of the computer and the Libris program, retro processing of the fund began
1997 acquisition of computers with a server and 4 stations, launch of the Services subsystem
1999 new computers obtained by a grant from the Ministry of Culture, internet connection
2000 electronic catalogs for readers - 2 computer sites
2004 internet access for readers - 1 place
In 2007, a free internet study room with 8 computers was set up as part of the "Internetization of Libraries" project
