Hubert IS full of legends
It was once rumored that Hubert JE was founded by a young French soldier Johann Evangelist Hubert from Champange, who also returned with a French expedition from the Napoleonic campaign in Russia. He remained unplanned in Bratislava in what was then Prešporek. Everything was changed by his injury and a beautiful nurse - Paulína, because of which he decided not to return home. The couple in love got married and Johann a champagne lover settled in Slovakia and started making sparkling wine from local, exceptionally high-quality wines.
Today's Hubert JE winery was established in 1825 as the first non-French sparkling wine factory based on Radlinského Street in Bratislava. Its founders were Johann Fisher and Michael Schonbauer. The first member of the Hubert family, who appeared in 1875 as a co-owner of a champagne factory together with Fisher, was Franz Hubert , the younger brother of Johann Evangelist Hubert, the already mentioned founder of the company according to legend. The company was rewritten in 1877 at the Hubert NPP, who died in 1882 at the age of 33 after a serious illness, and his wife Pauline, known from legend, took over the management of the company.
With her diligence and outlook, Pauline has expanded the company in every way. Already in 1842, the company won significant awards at the first Hungarian industrial exhibition in Budapest, and four years later a gold medal for purity, taste and quality.
Since its establishment, the Hubert JE winery has been one of the most important producers of sparkling wine in the region of the former Austria-Hungary. In Slovakia, it is the largest producer of sparkling wines with an annual production of more than 7.5 million bottles. In 2000, Hubert JE became a member of the German group Henkell & Co Sektkellereien KG. In 2008, the company's favorite Vitis Pezinok and Carpathian Brandy wines were added to the company's portfolio. Since January 2019, the Hubert JE winery has been part of the Henkell Freixenet group.
