In 1956, well B2 was excavated here. It was originally intended to supply the spa at Siva Brada with mineral water. The borehole is 132 meters deep.
The principle of operation of geysers in Slovakia differs from the operation of the classic geysers of Iceland, New Zealand or the USA, which erupt hot water. While in conventional hot water geysers the cause of the sudden release of the accumulated volume is hot water vapor, in the gray bear geyser (as well as in the Herlian geyser) the eruption is caused by carbon dioxide.
"The local water is healing - it heals the wallet and stomach," jokes the souvenir seller and is right. Local springs are very popular and in the past there were also spas below the south side of the hill to treat diseases of the digestive system and metabolism.
It was during the creation of the spa well that an overpressure spring was found, from which water flows in the form of a geyser today. At certain intervals, it reaches a height of up to three meters, sometimes bubbling on the surface of the lake, which formed on the north side of the hill, visible from the road.
The water in this spring is full of substances which, after drilling, settle on the edge of the lake as a white spring and, after hardening, further form a travertine hill.
