This famous wine town grew thanks to the intersection of two trade routes "Amber" and "Danube". The first written mention of Devín includes a document from 1237 under the name "Villa Thebyn", but the development of crafts and strategic location guaranteed it that in 1428 it acquires the character of a town. This famous wine town grew thanks to the intersection of two trade routes "Amber" and "Danube". The first written mention of Devín includes a document from 1237 under the name "Villa Thebyn", but the development of crafts and strategic location guaranteed it that in 1428 it acquires the character of a town. The town was subjugated to Devín Castle.

Devín received independence and privileges from Emperor Maximilian in 1568. In XVI. century was an important market place. Due to sales opportunities, an increase in crafts was recorded. From XVI.- XIX. century we have records of the existence of five guilds, which bring us closer to the life and work of Devín people: the guild of boatmen, fishermen, potters, shoemakers and winegrowers. During this period, the cultivation of fruit and vegetables also flourished, the sale of which was guaranteed by shipping. In 1829, the Danube-Steamship Company was founded.
Our town recorded a big rise in 1870 - 1890 Lafranconi's quarry, which supplied stone to regulate the banks of the Danube. Devín is famous for its currant wine, the production of which was started in 1922 by Alois Sonntag, the vineyards in its territory are first mentioned in 1254. The composition of the population was diverse until the end of the Second World War. Germans, Hungarians, Slovaks, Jews and Croats lived side by side here in harmony. Devín was once in the hands of the Hungarians, once the Austrian, Hungarian, Czech and Slovak. He was annexed to Bratislava in 1946.
