In the 17th century, a new way of mounting the turbine spread horizontally from England. That brought us to us. For a certain period, the method was applied both in Slovakia and in Host. After some time, it has been found that this method is not the most advantageous and has ceased to be used.
According to experts, the mill in Host is the only known preserved mill with this horizontal position in Slovakia.
From 1906, the mill supplied electricity to the Esterházi manor in the Abraham grove, 110 V DC until 1928, when they introduced a power plant in the village of Abraham.
In 1925 there was a roof fire. The new roof already had a broken shape.
Current status:
The water mill in Hosta is an immovable cultural monument, registered in the Central List of Cultural Monuments of the Slovak Republic under number 2511.
The mill is situated on the outskirts of the village and, together with the adjacent farm buildings, forms a complete, almost undisturbed area with newer interventions. The most valuable part of the water mill is its mechanical and technical equipment. The original drive consisted of a mill wheel for the groundwater of the drive flow. It was rebuilt into a water turbine with cylindrical stools at the beginning of the 20th century. A type of water chaplain turbine in a horizontal position is used here.
The grinding equipment of the mill is preserved, but it is out of operation for a long time. The residential wing and the economic part are used, their regular maintenance is ensured. In 1997, the renewal of the water mill was started, when the reconstruction of the roof was carried out. In 1999 and 2000, work continued by statically securing the supporting structures of the mill building and restoring external plasters with the financial assistance of the State Fund for Culture Pro Slovakia and the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic, the Let's Renew Our House program.
The building is installed by a watercourse - a supply channel that has been inoperative for a long time. As part of the restoration of the cultural monument, the canal was modified and cleaned, thus ensuring its functionality.
